Brown Hawker (Aeshna grandis)

Description

It has a total length of 70 to 77 mm with a wingspan of 8.5 to 10.3 cm.

Males and females are very similar in colour. Wings, legs and thorax are brown, the thorax has lemon-yellow stripes on the sides.

The brown abdomen of the males is tinged and has blue spots on the S2 limb and the sides. The females lack this waistline and the blue spots. They have barely visible yellow spots.

Hunting type

The brown mosaic damselfly is a persistent flyer that makes long patrol flights, during which there are also repeated sailing phases.

Habitat

The Brown hawker prefers larger standing and slow-flowing waters in wooded landscapes.
