The Black darter lives in small, shallow bodies of water, which are usually found in bogs. These are often acidic, mostly fishless lakes or overgrown, mostly in moorland areas. with acidic, mostly fishless moorland lakes, but also pools and ponds with shallow water zones and small reeds.
