Scarce chaser (Libellula fulva)

Description

It has a body length of 42 to 45 mm with a wingspan of 68 to 80 mm.

The black colouring of the wing tips is characteristic of the Scarce chaser, which unfortunately is often only weakly pronounced in males. The base of the hind wings is coloured black.

The male has a blue frosted abdomen and milky grey eyes.

In the female, the abdomen is orange to brown in colour and has a black jagged central line on the upper side. The eyes are brown in colour.

Hunting type

The Scarce chaser hunts from a perch that can often be seen on reeds.

Habitat

It favours standing or slow-flowing water, preferably small sunny lakes, larger ponds or ponds near the forest.
