Northern damselfly (Coenagrion hastulatum)

It has a body length of 31 to 33 mm with a wingspan of 34 to 43 mm.

Like all azure damselflies, it has the typical seam pattern on both sides of the thorax. The antehumeral stripes are continuous and narrow. The underside of the eyes and face are green.

The male has a blue ground colour on the thorax and abdomen with black markings. A blunt black spearhead can be seen on the abdominal segment S2, and on S3 there is a seated spear-shaped marking. Segment S7 is completely black, S8 and S9 are completely blue.

The female has a green ground colour, the upper side of the abdomen is completely black.
