Common Hawker (Aeshna juncea)

Description

It has a body length of 65 - 80 mm and a wingspan of 8 - 10 cm.

The thorax is dark brown in colour and has yellow-bluish lateral bands, between which there may be a small spot. Their antehumeral stripes are narrow, rather line-shaped. The T-shaped markings on the forehead, which become thinner towards the outside, are striking.

The abdomen is patterned blue-black in the male and gleb-brown in the female. The front edges of the wings are gold-coloured.

Hunting type

[Translate to English:]

Die Torf-Mosaikjungfer ist ein Dauerflieger, der sich nur selten absetzt. Dabei fliegt sie eher gemütlich und rüttelt dabei oft.

Habitat

The Common darter is a typical bog dragonfly, but can also be found in other bodies of water.
